heads up before you spend $$ on pillowfort, especially note the paypal thing. the io domain concern does not seem carefully enforced but is in the TOS so 🤷

I did a little digging earlier and managed to find out:

  • Pillowfort is run by one person 
    • (not 100% sure on this, but all evidence points to there being no other employees besides the website “founder”)
  • As such, there is no office, or “staff”
    • The address the company is listed at doesn’t actually have an office there (and is, conveniently, home to some 2000 companies)
  • it has already had not one but two successful, completed crowdfunding campaigns
    • the fact that they already had a successful indiegogo campaign isn’t mentioned on their kickstarter page, by the way
  • has been in beta for 2+ years

– society has zero qualms about pathologizing ace and aro identities, denying their existence and painting them as something in need of “fixing”

– aces and aros often do not learn their orientations exist until way late, if ever. They’re generally not taught about in school or college or in any comparable contexts and a lot of people with power there have zero interest in this changing (for example, because they think our identities are “unhealthy” and/or because they refuse to acknowledge them as orientations)

– a lot of aces and aros have recounted a lot of really bad experiences connected to people learning/knowing they’re ace and/or aro

– aces and aros are not in any way better protected from harm than other people

– there is literally no reason to act as if all this isn’t true

Painting nonwhite cultures as perfect HURTS the ones living in them. Blindly accepting their every action, letting horrible things slide because “that’s their culture” doesn’t make you woke. It makes your hands dirty with the blood of millions who suffer under the name of these oppressive standarts.

Respecting other cultures doesn’t mean you have to eat up everything they have to offer. Critically filter them, and don’t accept traditions that are harmful to a group of people. Stop presenting the poor pee oh cees as perfect.

And most importantly, stop silencing us victims. When we ask you to spread awareness of these issues, stop covering our stories by screaming how it is just the “cultural difference” to get woke points. Listen to the victims, and don’t accept the unacceptable just because the guilt is on the nonwhites. Stop throwing us under the bus in the name of looking good.
